Food Justice
OVERVIEW:

The Food Justice curriuclum is designed to engage high school-aged youth in conversations about food environments, food as a social justice issue, nutrition, and the power of commercials and social marketing. Through exposure to concepts such as the food environment, food justice, nutrition concepts, media literacy, and social marketing, the youth are encouraged to take charge of their health and become agents of change in their communities.

Food Justice was originally delivered to high school-aged youth as part of the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health corner store conversion program Proyecto Mercado FRESCO (Fresh Market Project).

RECOMMENDATION:

This innovative curriculum represents an exciting approach to engaging teens to not only think about nutrition and health, but in doing real-time, real-life efforts to improve their own communities.
