Edible Schoolyard
OVERVIEW:

The mission of the Edible Schoolyard Project is to build and share a national edible education curriculum for pre-kindergarten through high school. The program envisions gardens and kitchens as interactive classrooms for all academic subjects, and a sustainable, delicious, and free lunch for every student.

Their website includes lessons designed to empower students with the knowledge and values to make food choices that are healthy for them, their communities, and the environment. The lessons are fully integrated into academic subjects and support content standards, Common Core State Standards, and Next Generation Science Standards. At the same time, they are designed to achieve a specific set of edible education learning goals and life skills, such as communication, personal and community stewardship, flexibility, and perseverance.

ESY also offers multi-day trainings for educators to help them create powerful and sustainable edible education programs in their schools and communities.

RECOMMENDATION:

The ESY curriculum includes 49 detailed kitchen and garden lessons, with teaching aids, for grades six through eight.
