Transforming Corner Stores: Integrating Health, Food and Community (UCLA)
OVERVIEW:

Transforming Corner Stores: Integrating Health, Food and Community is a guide to implementing a corner store conversion, detailing lessons learned from a UCLA initiative to change the food environment in the Boyle Heights and East Los Angeles communities of Los Angeles. The community-based program built strong community partnerships, transformed corner stores, and engaged youth in an extensive social marketing campaign.

The toolkit includes an introduction to the corner store conversion project (Proyecto Mercado FRESCO); information on program planning, corner store selection and recruitment, partnership development, storeowner training, store transformations, social marketing campaigns, and program evaluation; and resources, such as a sample memorandum of understanding, evaluations, and surveys. The purpose of this toolkit is to help others succeed in engaging youth and working towards improving access to fresh produce in under-resourced communities.
